10 Tips For Using Scraps of Time

Posted By Donna on August 11th, 2008 at 07:53

Last week I was talking with a young women about her business and our coaching services.  She indicated the only place she needed help was getting some additional time during the day.  She either needed more hours or was going to be forced to sleep less.  Never a good option.  I began thinking about where could we find some scraps of time.  For myself I become irritated when I am sitting idle waiting on someone or something before I can move forward to my next activity. Such as sitting in the waiting room of a doctors office.  That drives me nuts.  Or sitting in a long line of traffic.

I think if we were prepared there are many things we could do with little scraps of time.  The key is being prepared.  So I grabbed myself a tote bag that I could leave in my car and I added two books, one business, one pleasure.  Note cards and a nice pen.  A couple of magazines I could cut articles out of and a pair of scissors, so I could actually cut the articles.  I like to send appropriate articles to my network when I write notes.  I like to send five notes per week.

Then I compiled a quick list of things I could do and I decided I should place the list in the tote bag and my purse and my PDA.  I did this because when I am frustrated I can’t think about what I could be doing.  A handy list makes it easy.

1. Make a quick call to a prospect or client.

2. Review your to do list.

3. Write a brief note or card to a former client.

4. Listen to a motivational or training tape. Or read.

5. Complete some paperwork.

6. Plan your strategy for capturing that next client or target market.

7. Compose a new prospecting letter or a story for your newsletter.

8. Do a stress reduction exercise.

9. Make a list of those things in your life you are most grateful for.

10. If others are around, make a new friend.

I hope you find these helpful. Have something to add?
